Keyboard Shortcuts

Master Nareli's keyboard shortcuts for faster time tracking, navigation, and task management.

Global Shortcuts

Global shortcuts work from anywhere in the app, regardless of which page you are on. The most important shortcut is the timer toggle: press Cmd+Shift+T to start or stop the timer instantly. Press Cmd+K to open Spotlight search, a quick launcher that lets you jump to any page, project, client, or task by typing a few characters. Press Cmd+N to create a new time entry, and Cmd+Shift+N to create a new task.

Cmd+Shift+T Start / stop timer
Cmd+K Open Spotlight search
Cmd+N New time entry
Cmd+Shift+N New task
Cmd+, Open Settings
Cmd+Q Quit Nareli

Quickly jump between pages using number-key shortcuts. Press Cmd+1 to go to the Dashboard, Cmd+2 for Time Entries, Cmd+3 for Tasks, Cmd+4 for Projects, Cmd+5 for Clients, and Cmd+6 for Reports. These shortcuts mirror the order of items in the sidebar navigation, making it easy to build muscle memory.

Cmd+2 Time Entries
Cmd+3 Tasks
Cmd+4 Projects
Cmd+5 Clients
Cmd+6 Reports
Cmd+7 Recurring Tasks

Time Entry Shortcuts

When working on the Time Entries page, several context-specific shortcuts are available. Press Enter on a selected time entry to open it for editing. Press Delete or Backspace to remove the selected entry (with confirmation). Use the arrow keys to navigate between entries in the day view. Press D, W, or M to switch between Day, Week, and Month views respectively. Press T to jump to today's date, and use the left/right arrow keys with Cmd held to navigate between days or weeks.

Enter Edit selected time entry
Delete Delete selected entry
D Switch to Day view
W Switch to Week view

Cmd+Right Next day/week/month

Task Management Shortcuts

On the Tasks page, press Enter to create a new task quickly (the cursor focuses on the task title field). Press Tab to move between task fields when creating or editing. Press Space on a selected task to toggle its completion status. Use Cmd+Shift+1 through Cmd+Shift+4 to set priority (1 = urgent, 2 = high, 3 = medium, 4 = low). Press V to cycle between List, Kanban, and Calendar views.

Enter Create / edit task
Space Toggle task complete
Cmd+Shift+1 Set priority: Urgent
Cmd+Shift+2 Set priority: High
Cmd+Shift+3 Set priority: Medium
Cmd+Shift+4 Set priority: Low
V Cycle task views
Cmd+F Filter tasks

Spotlight search (Cmd+K) is a powerful quick launcher inspired by macOS Spotlight. When you open it, a floating search bar appears in the center of the screen. Start typing to search across all your data: tasks, projects, clients, time entries, and app pages. Results are grouped by type and ranked by relevance. Press Enter to navigate to the selected result, or Escape to dismiss the search. You can also use arrow keys to move through results and Tab to switch between result categories.

Spotlight search supports fuzzy matching. Typing "web des" will match a project called "Website Design". It also searches task descriptions and client names.

Companion Window Shortcuts

The Companion window is a minimal, always-on-top timer window that floats above your other applications. Press Cmd+Shift+C to toggle the Companion window from the main app. Within the Companion window, press Cmd+Shift+T to start or stop the timer, and press Escape to minimize it. The Companion window supports the same global shortcuts as the main app.

Cmd+Shift+C Toggle Companion window
Cmd+Shift+T Start / stop timer (in Companion)
Escape Minimize Companion

Customizing Shortcuts

Nareli currently uses a fixed set of keyboard shortcuts that are optimized for the most common workflows. Shortcuts follow macOS conventions, using Cmd as the primary modifier key. If you have a conflict with another application's shortcuts, you can adjust the other application's bindings. Future versions of Nareli may include customizable shortcut mappings.

All shortcuts use the Cmd key on macOS. If you are using an external keyboard, make sure the Cmd key is properly mapped in System Settings > Keyboard.
